Day 156: Love letter 💌

Write a letter to yourself from unconditional love.

Elizabeth Gilbert is one of my all-time favorite authors. Her books, Eat Pray Love and Big Magic, are ones I return to often.

In a recent podcast interview with Tim Ferriss, she shared a beautiful exercise: writing a love letter to yourself from the perspective of unconditional love—whether you call it God, source, the universe, or whatever resonates with you.

She encourages you to begin the letter with a term of endearment, like “Dear little one…” or “Dear sweetheart…,” and then let unconditional love speak through you. You can even ask it, “What would you have me know today?”

Remember, unconditional love is just that—unconditional. It loves you in every state, whether you're crying on the kitchen floor or feeling unproductive, and sees nothing wrong with that.

As Gilbert poignantly says, even if you were homeless and spitting at people on the street, it would still love you.

Journal Prompt

Write a letter to yourself from unconditional love. Start with a term of endearment, and ask, "What would you have me know today?" Let the words flow without judgment and allow unconditional love to guide your writing.

Happy journaling,

Kelsey
