Day 172: Blurts 🗣️
Identify the source of your negative beliefs and turn each blurt into a positive affirmation.
Happy Saturday, friend 😊
Today we’re going to write several affirmations and see what blurts come up.
Start by choosing an affirmation, such as "I, ____(your name), am ____ (a prolific writer, a loving person, deserving of success, etc.)." Write it out ten times in a row and notice what inner voice starts to push back.
You might hear something like, "Yeah right, buddy. You WISH you were a prolific writer. You can barely send an email to a client without making a mistake."
These are what Julia Cameron refers to as "blurts."
And as you write your affirmations, you’ll notice these objections surfacing.
Write these blurts down—they reflect your negative core beliefs.
Journal Prompt
As you list your blurts while writing affirmations, dig deeper in your journal and explore where these negative core beliefs might have originated (parents, a critical teacher, etc.). Then, turn each blurt into a positive affirmation.
For instance, the blurt "I am untalented and phony" can be transformed into "I am genuinely talented."
Happy journaling,
Kelsey
