Pilgrimage đ„Ÿ
Plan a short pilgrimage and consider how youâll engage your senses to fully immerse in the experience.
Casper ter Kuileâs book explores the concept of a pilgrimage: a transformative journey on foot to a special or sacred place.
You may have heard of well-known pilgrimages, such as the Hajj to Mecca or the Camino de Santiago in Spain.
What stands out, though, is how ter Kuile broadens the concept. A pilgrimage doesnât have to involve faraway places or grand traditions. It can take the form of a hike through the desert, a solo camping trip in the Rockies, or even a family outing to the dog park.
What transforms any journey into a pilgrimage is intentionâsetting a purpose before you go, fully engaging with the natural world through all five senses, and returning home with a renewed perspective.
âWhen we walk a pilgrimage, we tread in the footsteps of many before us, and so the land itself gets wrapped up in a storyâŠEven the most unremarkable suburb is drenched in story.â
Journal Prompt
Plan your own pilgrimage for this weekend or the coming week.
Where are you feeling called to go (even if itâs just a walk to the coffee shop), and how will you use your senses to fully immerse yourself in the experience?
Happy journaling,
Kelsey
