Put me in, coach ⚽

If I were coaching a friend through [real-life scenario], what would I say and how?

How often have you been there for a friend by offering support, encouragement, or a listening ear?

When others struggle, we show up. No hesitation.

But when we’re the ones spiraling, self-compassion suddenly feels impossible. Instead, the inner critic takes over, tearing us down.

We’d never speak to a friend that way. So why do we do it to ourselves?

Dr. Smith offers this advice: change the way you speak to yourself. With practice, positive self-talk not only rewires your brain, it changes your emotional state.

Next time self-criticism creeps in, pause. Instead of tearing yourself down, imagine coaching a friend through the same situation.

“The best kind of coach is not one who swoops in to rescue you, but one who is honest with you and encourages you to find the strength within yourself to move through difficult moments.”

Now, think of a tough situation you’re facing as you dive into today’s prompt.
